Stephen M. Ross is a successful developer and U-M grad and benefactor who grew up in Detroit. His uncle, Max Fisher is a Detroit icon who owned gas stations throughout the midwest and later real estate etc. He was involved in promoting US and Israeli relations and was very philanthropic ... his name, along with his wife Marjory are on the front of Orchestra Hall.
Stephen received a Juris Doctor from Wayne State University and moved to New York in 1966. He created Related Companies in 1972 to utilize his knowledge of tax laws he gained on Wall Street to structure real estate deals that utilized government subsidies to attract investment for the construction of new affordable housing projects.
His company has become a significant force within the real estate development community far beyond his original focus. Related Co's, along with their architectural and engineering partners create some of the most forward thinking design concepts which are being applied to mixed-use Mega-Developments in New York, Chicago and elsewhere as well as singular projects throughout the world. They provide people with better environments to live and work and support the needs of the hospitality and business communities; along with the public sector as well.
Having a partner like Stephen M. Ross involved with all he stands for and brings to the table is a huge plus for Detroit ... and will no doubt lead to some pretty cool buildings being built here.
A video about Mr. Ross and his Detroit roots, his firm Related Companies and the architectural firm KPF (Kohn Pedersen Fox) that designed this project will follow.
We produced the video below using internet images to show the types of projects Related Companies and/or KPF are or have been involved in.
